LATIN CLUB REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
Calling all classicists and Latinists and people who enjoy Roman things! Latin Club will be going strong this fall with a fabulous round of activities. We will craft heroic Roman crowns to wear upon our heroic heads, laurel and otherwise. We will partake in the joys of the most fabulous 1981 version of Clash of the Titans, celebrate Halloween by carving mythological pumpkins, fashion tie-dye Roman togas, cook foods of ancient Greece and more!
Nota Bene: Latin Club is only open to Latin students, grades 7-8, and is capped at 30 students. So sign up early at the PTO store!
Club Meets: Thursdays 3:20-4:20pm for 8 sessions (9/25-11/13)
Location: WJHS, room 212 with teacher Kelly Shoemaker
Any questions? Please email magistra Shoemaker at shoemakk@wilmette39.org
HIGH FIVE CHOIR REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
The Wilmette High Five Junior Choir is for students in grades 5-8. We aim to share the love of music regardless of abilities, share our voices through music, and have a lot of fun! This club was modeled after New Trier High School’s High-5 Choir. We strive to provide a safe, affirming learning environment in which students of all abilities come together to create and experience music, build friendships, and raise awareness against stereotypes of differently-abled people. Please note that the High Five Junior Choir is different from the school’s grade level choirs.
The Wilmette High Five Junior Choir is offered Thursdays 3:45-4:45pm at Highcrest Middle School in the Music Room. 13 sessions (cost $125) begin 10/9/25 and end with a Winter Concert 1/29/26 4:15-4:45pm at the HMS Auditorium. Questions? Please email instructor Mrs. Martin, HMS Music Director, at martinj@wilmette39.org. Sign up HERE!
LAST CALL FOR DEBATE CLUB REGISTRATION
It’s not too late to start or join a Debate after school club! Classes at Highcrest began this week but classes at WJHS don’t start until the first week in October. Build public speaking skills and learn about the formal debate process. Ace’s Debate Club offers fall afterschool classes for both beginning and advanced students. More information about class times and cost here. Registration is open!
PLEASE SIGN UP TO SERVE LUNCH
At WJHS, volunteers are HIGHLY VALUED and APPRECIATED! It is only one hour of your time, from 11:30-12:30pm on any day of the week. If your student is worried about running into you at school, please be assured that you may not even see them!
Sign up HERE and thank you!
CURRICULUM NIGHT - PTO TABLE
It was so nice to meet many of you last night during the 7th grade Curriculum Night! The PTO will have a table in the front lobby again during the 8th Grade Curriculum Night next Thursday 9/25. Stop by and check out WJHS SpiritWear and meet PTO members. We are currently looking for volunteers to be on the 8th Grade Graduation Party Committee! Email president@wjhspto.com to put your name down or sign up on the sheet provided during the 8th Grade Curriculum Night.
WHY PURCHASE A PTO MEMBERSHIP?
It is important to purchase a PTO Membership because the $25 fee helps plan programs that benefit all students throughout the school year. Separate from the iGNITE Enrichment fund, the PTO funds stipends for teachers who coordinate the Latin Club, Student Council, Yearbook, funds beautification efforts like the front door planters, and staff appreciation throughout the year. The PTO also sponsors the 8th Grade Graduation party each year (free for all 8th graders!) and hosts tables at beginning of the year orientations and curriculum nights. In return, you get access to the online school directory, a lifeline for parents to connect with other parents. We use a platform called Membership Toolkit to make it easy for our parents to make and track purchases (i.e., Yearbook) and for you to get important information about school activities. Please join!
Even if you have a student at another D39 school, in order to access the WJHS Directory you will need to purchase a WJHS PTO membership. This can be done HERE, on the wjhspto.com website. Any questions or have trouble logging in? Email directory@wjhspto.com. YOU MUST UPDATE YOUR HOUSEHOLD CONTACT INFORMATION FROM A HOME COMPUTER TO BEGIN, NOT A PHONE.
If you have questions or trouble logging in, please email directory@wjhspto.com
WASHINGTON DC TRIP NOVEMBER 2026 (For Current 7th Graders)
Some of you might know that fall is the time where current 7th Grade families will get information and sign up for the Washington DC Trip that will happen next year, in their student’s 8th Grade (November of 2026). Although this trip is not PTO sponsored nor school sponsored, the PTO helps get the word out when registration will happen. Just to give everyone an update: the pricing and trip details for next year are still being finalized and we expect to be sending out an email of “when registration will happen” the last week of September or the first week of October. We will do our best to keep everyone informed BEFORE it happens! That way everyone can set their reminders on their schedules if you choose to sign up your student.
