Communications Guidelines

Planning an activity, fundraiser or special event? Need volunteers? Have an item of interest to the WJHS community? As outlined below, there are many ways to spread the word. Please use the communications request form for all submissions. Please feel free to contact us at: communications@wjhspto.com for help getting started.

Weekly Highlights

The Weekly Highlights is sent in email form to parents every Thursday from either Kate Dominque, WJHS Principal, or one of the grade level administrators (Eric Resis, 8th grade, or Jeff Dees, 7th grade). The Highlights includes information on the week ahead at WJHS, as well as news and upcoming events and activities.

If you have questions regarding your submission, please email: highlights@wjhspto.com. The deadline for submission is Wednesdays at noon.

Please limit all submissions to 75 words or less. If you feel like you need more than this, please send an attachment in addition to your introduction.

What to include:

  • PTO meetings, events, announcements and activities
  • WJHS meetings, events announcements and activities
  • District 39 meetings, events, announcements and activities
  • Classroom activities
  • Related items such as D39 Foundation and District PTO activities
  • Wilmette Public Library and Park District announcements that relate to education

What not to include: 

  • Scouting and similar group activities
  • Sporting activities not affiliated with District 39
  • Third-party fundraisers
  • Private enterprises and organizations

Once you submit your request, it will be reviewed then placed in that week’s Highlights.

PTO Website

The WJHS PTO website includes: pertinent information on the activities of the PTO; contact information; PTO documents; meetings and meeting notes; volunteer opportunities; club information; Social Dance information; graduation activities; Weekly Highlights; and more.

To submit information to the PTO website, complete the form (linked above).  While we will acknowledge and confirm your request as soon as possible, it can take up to 10 days for the website to be updated. Please take that into consideration when planning your communication request.

Publicity

Efforts are made to publicize the activities of the WJHS and the WJHS PTO through local media outlets. We are particularly interested in post-event publicity that helps raise awareness in the community of the efforts of the PTO. Please send us any information items, stories, ideas, photos or other media that may be used to highlight the great things happening at WJHS.

Yearbook

The yearbook is always interested in photos and information from WJHS activities and events that show student life. If you have photos for consideration, please contact our Yearbook Coordinator at yearbook@wjhspto.com.
